viii. Ode at the Betrothal

As Yara Shalem grew tall and splendid, the love of the Maker increased until they were betrothed unto one another.1Ezekial 16:3 KJV

So said the Maker unto Yara Shalem:2Ezekial 16:3 KJV

I looked upon you again, and it was the time of my love; I made you thrive like a plant in the field and you grew and matured, you increased and waxed great, and became very beautiful: your breasts were formed, and your hair fell to your knees, and vulnerable you stood before me—naked and bare. 3Ezekial 16:7 KJV/NIV

Now when I looked upon you again, behold, your time was the time of love; 4Ezekial 16:8 KJV) I betrothed you unto myself, drew you under my wing, and spread my cloak over you. I covered your nakedness: yea, I swore an oath unto you, and entered into a covenant with you, says the Maker, and you became mine. Yara Shalem, you became mine.

Then washed I you with water; yea, I thoroughly washed away your blood from you, and I lavished you with oil and ointments.((Ezekial 16:8-9 KJV/NIV
I gave myself for you that I might sanctify and cleanse you with the washing of water by the Word, that I might present you to myself glorious5Ephesians 5:25-27 NKJV and radiant without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.6Ephesians 5:27 NIV Then I said, See I have taken away your uncleanness, removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes7Zechariah 3:4 NKJV.

I delighted in your beauty, and I clothed you also with embroidered work, and shod you with badgers’ skin, and I clothed you with fine linen, covered you with silk. I adorned you also with ornaments: corded your wrists with bracelets and draped golden chains on the nape of your neck, bejeweled your forehead, hung earrings in your ears, and set a beautiful crown upon your head. Thus were you adorned with gold and silver, with raiment of fine linen, silk, and embroidered work;8Ezekial 16:10-13 KJV and paraphrase I fed you with finest of wheat, with honey from the rock I satisfied you.9Psalm 81:16 NKJV

I said to you, You are altogether beautiful, my love, all fair; there is no flaw in you. Come with me, my bride. You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have ravished my heart with one glance of your eyes; you have stolen my heart with one jewel of your necklace. How beautiful is your love, how delightful—how much more pleasing is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your oils than any spice! Your lips drip nectar, my bride; honey and milk are under your tongue; the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon.10Song of Solomon 4:7-11 NKJV/ESV

You were exceedingly beautiful, and prospered into a kingdom, succeeded to royalty. And your renown went forth among the nations for your beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I bestowed upon thee, says the Maker.11Ezekial 16:14 KJV/NIV and paraphrase Is it not the splendor I had given you that made your beauty perfect?12Ezekial 16:14 NIV and paraphrase

See how I am woven within and without your story—my heart of love has ever been open wide to you, so comprehend its width and length and depth and height: my love for you passes knowledge, and I seek to fill you with all my fullness.13Ephesians 3:19 NKJV and paraphrase The day of our wedding will be the day of the gladness of my heart, the day my heart will rejoice.14Song of Solomon 3:11 KJV/NIV

lovely, magnificent bride to be, faithful to be… vulnerable among the fields of harvest,
woven in to the story of love.

“To be betrothed, is to be faithful and loyal, to be pledged and woven into one. The Bride to be… altogether lovely, altogether beautiful, as beheld by her lover… grown tall and magnificent among the fields, yet purely vulnerable to her lover. He, woven in white around her, the width, and depth and height of His love open wide to her.”
